What Is Metabolism?

Metabolism is one of our body processes that are vital to sustaining life. It is the process by which the body utilizes nutrients present in food (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats) to make energy.

Oxygen is involved in this process by which the nutrients undergo changes along the process. Energy is the end product of this reaction. What Is An Optimum Metabolism And Why Is It Important?

An optimum metabolism is one in which the calories being consumed by the body through food are equal to the calories that the body is burning. There should be a balance of calories consumed and calories burned.  For this reason, physical activity is an important factor.

For a  person with a sedentary lifestyle, the calorie requirement is less as compared to the one with an active lifestyle. If this is not the case then it will lead to physical and chemical changes in the body. It will cause us to either gain weight or lose weight.
